Check out this helpful video to give you an idea of what to expect on the day (thanks to BL Media Solutions).
We recommend you drive via Winchelsea / Deans Marsh to avoid delays on the Great Ocean Road. Free Parking and a Free bus shuttle service to the main street is available at the Lorne Country Club (Google maps)
Swim Registration will commence 4-6pm FRIDAY 9/1/26! If you are in town this will give you more time to collect your T-shirt, timing band and swim cap, and you can also enjoy the Village green with sponsor products and food and drink options.
Saturday Registration opens at 8am and closes at 12 noon.
Waves start at 11 am and go through the day. See your likely swim wave here
Aim to get to the Start 15 minutes before your start time (excluding any warm up time). It takes 15 minutes to walk there from the beach.
You can warm up between the flags before walking to the Start, or at the Start behind the pier. You cannot warm up on the inside of the race course as IRBs and Jetskis look after swimmers on both sides of the course. You cannot swim under the pier and you must leave the warm up water area after your warm up. You must enter the swim with your category through the car park and down the entry ramp where your timing band will register a valid water entry.
Gear drop is at the back of pier car park – you can drop your official swim bag or your own bag at the Gear tent where we have labels.
Water entry is typically 5 minutes before your start time (longer for Legends and Heroes) – don’t rush and be careful on the ramp and in the shallows as there can be rocks in the sand.
Please stay behind the deep water Start Line until the starters gun fires. Swim to the right of the line of yellow buoys, taking care of other swimmers (don’t kick too hard at the start and try to find your own space to swim in). Lift your head regularly to stay on course and towards the end watch out for any slower swimmers from the wave in front. Fast waves have a 10 minute gap to the wave in front and slower waves a 5 minute gap.
Keep to the right of the final turning buoy (usually a sponsor coloured buoy), ensure you regularly look behind you for waves as you enter the wave zone, and body surf one in if you are confident (and duck under the waves if you are not confident).
Stand up in the shallows and the finish line should be right on front of you – enjoy the jog / walk / sprint up the beach, and keep within your abilities and recent training to avoid injuries like calf or hamstring strains!
Your ankle timing tag will probably ‘beep’ when you cross the line. Keep moving to the team who will remove your tag. If you need help just make that known to the life savers and volunteers. Water and a hose-off opportunity is provided just up the ramp from the sand.
Collect your gear from the gear tent on the left if you used the gear drop and make your way through to the Village green where there are changing tents and toilets.
Then you can meet your friends and checkout our Village exhibitors to enjoy sponsor products and food and drinks, along with the great Powercor scenic high rise “lifts” and basketball activities.
Presentations for each category will be on the main stage, approx. 15 minutes after the placegetters finish.
The Shark Bait Award tent is available next to the registration tent from which you can collect your medal. We have a dais and signage wall set up there so you can take great photos with your medal. The tent operates from 9am till 12 noon. Shark Bait awardees will be posted on our Shark Bait page in the week before the Event.
Swimmers and runners of all abilities are welcome at our events, including those with disabilities. Our mission is to foster an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can enjoy the water or the land and celebrate the joy of swimming or running together. If you have a support swimmer, shore team, or equipment needs, please reach out to our Swim Administrator swim@lornesurfclub.com.au — together, we’ll make sure you have the best experience possible.
Please note that there is a boating exclusion zone on the day of the Pier to Pub. It runs from 7am to 4pm and covers the area from the Pier to the groyne. No craft may enter this area during this time. You can view the public notice here.
