Member Spotlight Name: Sam Brooker Membership status: Active How long have you been a member at Lorne? And how many years have you been patrolling? I joined Lorne SLSC in 1968. I have patrolled every year since then. Interestingly in 1968 I can remember counting the names on the Active Patrol Roster and coming up with a total of 68. At that time females could not participate in Surf Lifesaving. What do you love most about the club? The best thing about the Club is the people that you meet. Lorne has had and still has many fantastic characters in the Club. Lorne members are dedicated to keeping themselves healthy and this has inspired an essentially undisciplined person like myself to try and maintain a reasonable level of personal fitness. Name: Jess Sincock Membership status: Active How long have you been a member at Lorne? And how many years have you been patrolling? I started nippers in the Under 10s in 2003 and continued through all the age groups. I didn’t particularly enjoy nippers, but in the Under 13s I thoroughly enjoyed learning CPR and about rips and so that really kept me hooked to do Bronze Camp in 2009 when I was 15. This is going to be my 10th season of patrolling, and I still love it! I reckon I still have a lot of seasons left in me! What do you love most about the club? It’s hard to say just one thing! I love all the friends and connections I’ve made throughout the years, they’ve definitely all helped me through some tough times! I also really love being able to teach the new Bronzies and Silvers the skills needed to patrol, and to show them how fun it is! I love the opportunities the club has also brought me, I have has some amazing times competing in IRB racing, and thanks to my club involvement and the awards they have taught me I now have an amazing casual summer job Lifeguarding at my favourite beaches with some amazing people! You can read more about Sam and Jess on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LorneSLSC/ Upcoming Events Skills maintenance weekend is a great weekend for everyone to get back together, and prepare for the upcoming season.
