Lorne Mower August 2021
Lorne MowerPresidents Report Welcome to another edition of the Lorne Mower. I hope all our members are safe and well as the year is continuing to throw us all Covid challenges. Many of our members in Metropolitan Melbourne and NSW are currently in lockdown. We look forward to better times ahead and hopefully something that resembles a normal season ahead. I extend a very warm welcome to all the new Committee members joining our Executive Committee and Sub-committees for the upcoming season. At the same time, I am very appreciative for the contributions of the outgoing Executive Members who are not continuing in their roles. To Heath Armstrong, Sam Aschhoff, Tim Boness, Sam Ord and John Takac, thank-you for your service to the club and you will remain valued Club members. The new committee has hit the ground running, with planning already underway for the season ahead. We are hoping for an action-packed season for everyone to enjoy. Our New Club Captain, Jess Sincock, is already working with the patrol groups to extend the fantastic year we had last year, with over 6,000 volunteer patrols hours completed on Lorne Beach. This was achieved across all patrol groups of the club, with some members assisting with multiple patrol groups to ensure the beach was a safe place to be. Nick Tsekouras and his Training and Assessment team have already put together dates for Bronze and Silver camps and will start planning for the year ahead. This follows on from the outstanding work they performed last year. They have many contingencies and processes in place from last year to deliver all the training needed to ensure our active members are ready for the season ahead. Like many events in 2020 and 2021, the Life Saving Victoria Awards of Excellence was a virtual event again with several Lorne members nominated. For those who missed the results, we are very proud to announce that “Lorne Again” were awarded the Master’s Team of the Year, which is a well deserved result for amazing efforts over many years. Well done to all members nominated. The life blood of our club is our members and in what has been another difficult year, we need as many people as possible renewing their membership to the club. These membership fees go directly back into the club, providing the necessary life saving equipment and maintenance to enable us to keep the beach safe. If you are in a financial position to renew your membership, it would be of great assistance to the club and most appreciated. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact the club and we will be very happy to help out in any way we can. Even in these difficult times and in a world that is moving towards a “COVID normal”, it is still important to remind all our members what is vital for Lorne and all Surf Life Saving Clubs – keeping our beaches safe. See you on the Beach! Cheers Paul Club Captains Report Dear Members, I am very excited to be your club captain this season and I am very much looking forward to the great times and the challenges ahead.
