Lorne SLSC has a dedicated and highly experienced volunteer Training and Assessment team. Lorne offers a range of difference programs and qualifications to anyone wanting to become or already is a Lifesaver.

Life Saving Qualifications
Life savers can obtain a variety of qualifications to improve their skills and contribute more to patrols, prevention and emergency situations. Life Saving can be a rewarding life-long journey of improvement and is a terrific team based activity to be part of.
The main qualifications are:
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
Basic rescue skills for 13 and 14 year olds coming out of Nippers. Lorne’s SRC Program runs in parallel with our Nipper Program, usually from 28th December to 6th January.
Bronze Medallion
The foundation award for Active surf life savers 15 years old and over. Bronze Camp runs in mid December each year for a fantastic live-in week at the Clubhouse, but if you miss that we also run additional courses throughout the year.
Lorne SLSC Bronze is run in a partial “boot camp style” whilst still including all the fun activities such as movie nights, water activities, free time, sports and so much more!

Advanced Awards
These include:
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
- Senior First Aid
- Spinal Management
- All Terrain Vehicle (18 years+)
- Marine Certificate – with PWC
- IRB Crew (Inflatable Rescue Boat)
- IRB Drivers (17 years+)
The best way to qualify for these advanced awards is at the Silver Camp each year in early December before Bronze Camp.
Silver Camp
Silver Camp provides Bronze Medallion holders to take the next step forward within the club. This camp focuses in on specific advanced first aid and inflatable rescue boat skills. The camp also aims to begin the pathway into becoming a leader within the club. This is a great live-in week at the club and we encourage all those wishing to participate to apply!

We are an inclusive club, and a range of roles available for those not wishing to complete any of the above qualifications, such as Nippers, Merchandise, Training and other club roles!
Instructors and Assessor Awards
Training and Assessment is a great way to develop new skills that are invaluable and applicable well beyond life saving. We encourage anyone interested in getting involved in the training and assessment team to reach out to the VP for Training and Assessment – training@lornesurfclub.com.au
Instructing Bronze Medallion Camp or Silver Medallion Camp:
- Be over the age of 17 years old
- Hold a current WWCC
- Encourage you to hold advanced awards
- Encourage you to hold you Training Officers Certificate

Pathways
Life Saving Victoria operates an extensive range of exciting training pathway opportunities and we encourage our members to participate in the activities.
