1.2km open water swim from the Lorne Pier to the beach. Depending on the day and the tide the distance can be slightly longer than this. You should be able to confidently swim 1500m in a pool.
The Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub swim attracts swimmers from all ages and from all levels including recreational and professional. You will need to complete the swim in reasonable time, less than 40 minutes. Swimmers who take too long may be removed from the water for their own safety.
The Powercor Lorne Mountain to Surf run is for competitors of all fitness levels. Some walk the course but you should be able to cover the 8km course in under 2 hours. Those taking too long and are on the Great Ocean Road will be required to board our event bus for the final portion of the course due to road safety requirements.
Flippers and other swimming aids can only be used for swimmers with a physical need that would otherwise prohibit them from completing the swim. Anyone wanting to use swimming aids must obtain permission from the organising committee. Please send your request to swim@lornesurfclub.com.au
$65.00 all 18 and up, $55.00 for Juniors 17 and younger for early bird entry. Covers either a Lorne run or a virtual run. On 1st of December entries increase by $10.
A wetsuit is not essential, however many participants choose to wear one for warmth and comfort. We strongly recommend that you wear a wetsuit. Wetsuits will be available to hire on the day through Arena.
If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact our Event Marketing Manager for more information. Details can be found on our contacts. page.
You should exercise regularly in whichever event you intend to compete in and seek your own medical advice if you have any concerns, particularly if you have not done any exercise in a while or experienced these conditions (ocean swimming or cross country running as relevant).
Boats cannot come close to the competitors. Maritime Safety Victoria has clear rules issued as part of our race permit to ensure the safety of competitors, there is a boating exclusion zone for the event from 7:30am to 5pm from the pier to the beach and 500m from the shore along this distance. Event Rescue craft will be monitoring the exclusion zone.
At the event, present to troubleshooting next to the T-shirt/Registration Marquee. If you are not at the event, send an email to swim@lornesurfclub.com.au with the details (NB there are no refunds after mid-December).
No one comes to the event planning on going home in an Ambulance. We certainly hope it doesn't happen. If you do need medical evacuation then Ambulance Cover will manage the cost. See https://www.ambulance.vic.gov.au/membership/
