GENERAL
- The spirit of friendly competition should be maintained throughout the event.
- Any unsportsmanlike conduct will be grounds for immediate disqualification.
- Decisions of the event officials are final and are not subject to appeal.
- An entry permits a competitor a single entry.
- Competitors who cross the start line before the starting gun is fired will be liable for disqualification.
- A competitor is judged to have finished when the competitor’s torso crosses the finish line.
- Race officials shall have the authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without the risk of injury to themselves or others (this can include swimmers who are deemed unable / unlikely to complete the Swim course in 45 minutes or the Run course in 120 minutes).
- Organisers reserve the right to accept, reject and cancel entries.
PLACE-GETTING
- The winning Swim place-getters of each category are the first, second and third place-getters from the first wave of each Male and Female age category, except for the Open Category where the place-getters must swim in the Superfish wave (which could be the last wave).
- The winning Run place-getters of each Male and Female age category are the first, second and third place-getters from any wave. It is recommended that potential place-getters of the Supergoat Open category request to be included in the Supergoat first wave in their entry form.
- Swim and Run places, trophies, medals and prizes are only given to Male and Female age categories (i.e. not for Same Time Swim, Virtual, Non-Binary / Multi Gender / Gender Not Disclosed categories).
- Competitors who wish to compete in the Open Superfish wave must indicate this in the entry system or request permission from the Race Director well in advance of the day of the race. Age-group place-getters on the day may be considered for Superfish. The Race Director or approved delegate will determine the Superfish swimmers. The Race Director’s decision will be final.
- Superfish competitors who wish to swim in both their age category and the Open Superfish category must indicate this in the entry system, or advise the Race Director / delegate well in advance of the day of the race.
- Superfish swimmers must wear a lycra vest if provided to them or face disqualification.
- Competitors who wish to compete in the Super Goat category must indicate this in the entry system or request permission from the Race Director well in advance of the day of the race.
- Transgender and gender diverse entrants are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our Events.
- Transgender competitors entered in a category which does not align with their sex assigned at birth will not be eligible for placings (i.e. 1-3, and 1-5 in the Superfish) and associated trophies / medals and prizes unless they apply and are approved in advance of the Events. Applications should be made to the Race Administrator swim@lornesurfclub.com.au . The approval guidelines follow Surf Life Saving Australia’s guidelines, contained in: Section 2 – General Competitive Conditions, APPENDIX A – GUIDELINE FOR THE INCLUSION OF TRANSGENDER AND GENDER DIVERSE, ATHLETES, of the SURF LIFE SAVING AUSTRALIA SURF SPORTS MANUAL 38th EDITION, SEPTEMBER 2026 . Refer specifically to the Guideline on Page 2-65. Eligibility will be determined through a confidential, case-by-case assessment. The individual’s medical practitioner may be consulted where required. If the gender of a competing athlete requires review, the medical delegate (or equivalent) of the Events has the authority to take appropriate measures for the determination of the eligibility of the athlete.
- Protests must be made in writing and given to the Race Director within fifteen minutes of the announcement of the provisional results. All decisions of the Race Director are final with respect to specific protests.
- In the case of extenuating circumstances where there is clear ineligibility or disqualification criteria identified after formal presentations, the Race Director reserves the right to retrospectively alter the race results, over-riding any previous ‘final’ decisions on the day. There is no time limit on this. Changes to results and presented items will be determined on a case by case basis.
- Competitors who enter mischievous or non-genuine entry data, or compete under someone else’s entry, will be disqualified and removed from the race(s) and results.
SWIM
- Swimmers will be required to swim with an official swim cap, a timing transponder on their ankle and race number on their arm or wrist, which must remain on the individual throughout the event.
- No extraneous swim aids are allowed without permission in advance from the Race Director. This includes, but not limited to, fins, boards, snorkels, floatation gear and personal support teams.
- Goggles are allowed and are recommended.
- Wet suits are allowed and are recommended for safety reasons.
- Swimmers must swim the course as marked, staying to the right of the marker buoys. Any variation to the course will be announced at the start. If two final sponsor marker buoys are on the course parallel to the beach (e.g. 100m apart), swimmers must stay to the right of the left hand buoy as viewed from the start line looking towards the beach and finish line.
RUN
- Runners will be required to run with an official numbered timing bib, containing a timing transponder, which must remain on the individual throughout the event.
- Sturdy footwear is recommended for safety reasons.
- Due to the narrow track and natural terrain on some sections of the run course, for the safety of all competitors it is strongly recommended that competitors do not use headphones or other such devices.
- Runners must run the course as marked, staying to the correct side of the marker cones where clear.
- Any variation to the course will be announced at the start.
- Runners must follow course marshal instructions throughout.
