Lorne Mower August 2025
Misty, drizzly, we still love it… Winter will end, soon. It’s near the end of winter so that means things are getting busier at your surf club with planning for the upcoming season. The AGM was held last month and it’s a big thankyou to all who put their hands up to be part of the Executive Committee. Welcome back to some familiar faces and hello to some new committee members. All their contact details are on the website, so get in touch if you want to chat or share your thoughts and ideas.. The President – Heath Armstrong The Executive Committee is supported by a strong general committee covering a range of club areas from lifesaving operations, competitions and admin support such as grants and IT. Thank you While we’re talking about the committee, a HUGE thank you to two retiring Executive Committee members Jenny Aschoff/Armstrong was on the committee for 11 years! Such an amazing contribution to the club. Enjoy your retirement Jenny, and know we are all very very grateful for your contribution to keeping the building operating as best it can. Stephen Longley has stepped aside as Treasurer. He has been instrumental in setting up many processes that have resulted in the club now operating in a positive financial position. We are all very grateful for his guidance, good humour and of course, expert knowledge. He’s set things up very well for someone to step into the role. ![]() We are the CHAMPIONS We always knew it but now it’s official we have the BEST nippers program and the BEST Beach Lifeguard. The LSV Awards of Excellence were held earlier this month and we were absolutely stoked to have this success. The nippers team took out the award again, following their success in 2024. They didn’t rest on their laurels but kept improving. Well done, Kirilee, Sharon and all of your amazing team. We know you’ll deliver another amazing (award winning!) program this coming season. Michael, well we know he’s a great guy and a super talented lifesaver and now it’s official. Keep up the great work Garbs, we know our beach is that much safer with you on the team and your lifeguarding work means other beaches are also in excellent hands. And a special mention for Matilda Eriksson for her nomination for Junior (14-17yrs) Lifesaver of the Year. Do you love the beach and balance sheets? ![]() Can you tell the difference between a P&L and a Rescue Tube? Then we need you. The Lorne Surf Life Saving Club is in urgent need of a Treasurer. Don’t panic though, this isn’t a lonely calculator-in-the-corner type gig. The role is well supported by our brilliant bookkeepers, club admin, and the Executive Committee so you won’t be drowning in receipts. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: This role would suit a current or former professional in accounting or finance. Someone who knows their way around numbers but also enjoys a laugh, a coffee and the occasional sausage sizzle. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, make new friends and casually drop “I’m the Treasurer of the Lorne Surf Club” into conversations (which is a great flex by the way)… this is your chance. Interested? Get in touch, we’d love to have you on board. president@lornesurfclub.com.au Patrol Heads Up While still to be 100% confirmed, expect the patrol season to run from late November until the end of the Easter school holidays. Planning for the 2026 Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf is well underway. Are you interested in helping with the pre-event planning? . Immediate help is needed with organising all the permits. This is a very important job – can’t run the events it if we don’t have the permits! You’ll need good computer skills and an attention for detail, be part of the team that makes this great weekend happen! Shoot a note to Jo at swim@lornesurfclub.com.au if you are interested. 🙂 ![]() Competition Update It’s been a long winter with most taking some well-earned time away from the beach, so hopefully refreshed and ready for the upcoming season. A season that is full of opportunities to race nearly every weekend from November. We are again hosting our own carnival on Saturday 7th Feb and will host our own Nipper carnival on the 8th Feb. Senior Victorian State Titles are at Lorne too! Friday 20th till Sunday 22nd February 2026 Exciting News, Nick Sloman has signed on as our club swim coach. Use this link if you want to read more about it. Who are the Area Captains for 2025/26 There will be a Pre-season Training Camp 3-5 October See you at the beach Community(ish) News Need a new office space or maybe an exercise studio? The club’s building in the industrial site at 20 Erskine Falls Road is used to store equipment, vehicles and other bits n bobs. Upstairs is a great space that until very recently was occupied by the Sam I Am building company. They’ve now vacated the building for larger premises. So we have a great space available to rent. It is ideal for lots of uses – office space, exercise studio, so many options. Contact Alice if you would like to organise a site inspection. admin@lornesurfclub.com.au ![]() Did you know the Lorne SLSC is a registered charity?
