The countdown is on
Get ready for summer, requal, Pier to Pub, Mountain to Surf, the beach, the sun (we hope), there is so much just around the corner. But before then, there are some things for you to know, consider and maybe action. But first let’s hear (Iiterally!) from our President. Over to you Heath.

Pier to Pub/Mountain to Surf entries open 4 November
The (mainly) new committee has been meeting in smoky backrooms, to develop the best events for 2025. Well okay, the smoky backrooms are really zoom calls…We are pleased to announce that our major sponsor Powercor is back again, supporting the events and the Lorne SLSC. In addition to their amazing financial support they’ll again be showing off their boom lifts, it really is the best way to get a view of the race! There is also a new marketing team, and PR agency (with big shoes to fill) and we’re all super excited. Want to know more? Jump onto the Pier to Pub page on the club website.
Get ready for season 2024/25
Welcome back to another season on the beach. I’m really excited to get back into the lifesaving season with everyone. Our patrols will start November 23rd and go till April 21. The main season has also been extended for both patrols and lifeguards till the end of February with the warmer weather predicted. All patrol captains should have reached out to their respective patrols and calendar invites will be sent out this week. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to get in touch.
cheers, Nick captain@lornesurfclub.com.au

Vale Don Heathcote
Donald E. Heathcote AM known to most club members as “8 Day”, for his capacity to fit 8 days of activity into every week, passed away on 22 October 2024.
Throughout his surf club career, Don was involved in many aspects of the club, as a competitor, coach, competition official and office bearer. He became Club Captain in 1964 and was active in the life saving movement at a state level, involved in SLSV State Centre for a number of years.
Don is best remembered for coaching the Lorne team to victory in the National 6 man R&R Championship in 1973 at Burleigh Heads. The flag with “Association Premiers 1972-73”, which flies above the clubhouse, commemorates this achievement.
Don coached the Lorne R&R team to win 13 consecutive State Titles.
For his outstanding achievements and support of the club Don was awarded life membership of Lorne SLSC in 1973.Our condolences to his family and friends. A great clubman, he will be missed.
Is your Working With Children Check (WWCC) up-to-date??
All members 18 years and over must have a valid WWCC. Is your Check up-to-date? Make sure it is valid for the coming season. You can renew your Check online from six months before its expiry date until three months after it has expired. If you are a new member and have an existing Check you simply need to add Lorne SLSC as another volunteer organisation. Remember, the Check for volunteers is at no cost. Need more information, check out this article from LSV.
To check on your Check or if you need to get one in place for this season, go to https://service.vic.gov.au/services/working-with-children
