It was great to see some new faces, with Nipper parents among the debutants (Tye and Julie Cockle and Nick Newton – a 3 time English Channel swimmer trying the much shorter distances!) – it was certainly an odd role reversal with Nippers cheering on their parents for a change!
There were also some great comebacks after a year or two away (James Bowden, Sonia Grundy and Karl Russell – making a gutsy call with the Ironman first up!)
Well done to everyone, and particular thanks to those who crewed the IRBs, including Nick, Vinnie and Kate amongst others!
A final shout out to Julie who is now facing quite a period on the sidelines with a ruptured Achilles – all the best for your operation and recovery Julie!
All in all a great day and the most competitors we have had in a quite a few years – can’ t wait to make it even bigger and better next year – thanks everyone, and go Lorne!
